Progressive Democrats of Central Oregon is the local chapter of Progressive Democrats of America for Crook and Deschutes Counties in formation. We are citizen activists working both within and outside the Democratic Party for peace and social justice. Although we are still at the stage of setting local priorities and formulating strategies to address them, we expect to launch a vigorous local campaign to secure signatures on the Healthcare Not Warfare petition, calling on the Democratic Party at all levels, and Democratic members of Congress, to end the military occupation of Iraq, and use a portion of the savings to fund full healthcare for everyone in this country. We are organizing around the common principles set forth in the Progressive Challenge 2008, and will be campaigning to elect candidates and pass measures to achieve them, in concert with PDA nationally, and Progressive Democrats of Oregon statewide. Our first public membership meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 28, 6:00 PM, in the Brooks Room at the Public Library, 621 NW Wall St., in Downtown Bend. In addition to electing individuals to fill local leadership roles, the chapter's initial structure, priorities, strategies and activities will be discussed. Our membership is open to all who share the progressive vision for Oregon and America, regardless of party affiliation.
